The dot SE country-code top-level domain extension was created in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration process was really restrictive, so a very small number of domain names were secured. Individuals were permitted to acquire solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a prerequisite, i.e. merely Swedish individuals, business entities and organizations were able to obtain a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened a lot and, consequently, the number of dot SE domains has been growing each year.
